The map, entitled The Kingdome of Scotland, dates back to 1611 and was created by one of the most famous mapmakers of the early modern period, John Speed. John Speed was an English cartographer who published this rare map of Scotland as part of a series he created called The Theatre of the Empire of Great Britaine. The series included not only this general map of Scotland but also the first set of individual county maps of England and Wales, along with a map of Ireland.
